La madre
La niña escribió un cuento. «Pero sería mejor si escribieses una novela», dijo su madre. La niña construyó una casa de muñecas. «Pero sería mejor si fuera una casa de verdad», su madre dijo. La niña hizo una pequeña almohada para su padre. «Pero ¿no sería más práctico un edredón?», dijo su madre. La niña excavó un pequeño hoyo en el jardín. «Pero sería mejor si excavases un hoyo grande», dijo su madre. La niña excavó un hoyo grande y se fue a dormir en él. «Pero sería mejor si te durmieras para siempre», dijo su madre.

The Mother
The girl wrote a story, “But how much better it would be if you wrote a novel,” said her mother. The girl built a dollhouse. “But how much better if it were a real house,” her mother said. The girl made a small pillow for her father. “But wouldn’t a quilt be more practical,” said her mother. The girl dug a small hole in the garden. “But how much better if you dug a large hole,” said her mother. The girl dug a large hole and went to sleep in it. “But how much better if you slept forever,” said her mother.
